We had a really great baptism!

How are you all, my lovely family? I miss you guys! But sounds like you are having TOO much fun with all this snow. Sad I am missing it. Lawlz. Actually, it would be cool to be in snow right but no matter, living on the Equator is fun too. Nate- good job with your wisdom teeth. It takes a real person to get those things taken out. As I remember, I was totally normal when I got mine taken out.

So this week. We had a really great baptism! That was the highlight of the week. Her name is Natalia and she is aweeesssooommee. She is 19 and has a cute little baby. Super great. She was the girl that said that before she met us, she didn’t believe in God and she didn’t want anything to do with religion or anything. So anyways, her baptism was lovely. None of her family is members so we had a lot of investigators in the baptism, but the best thing that they said was that the cake we provided was good. So…anywho…But Natalia was happy. And so were we.
So I read a really cool talk about the love that God has for every single one of us. That is my favorite thing to study, because I think it is so comforting. And with people here, it is definitely the thing I refer to the most. Because if they know that God is not only God, but is their Heavenly Father, there is such a change in people. I feel like when we understand the love that Heavenly Father has for us, we want to be obedient and when we are obedient and follow all of the commandments, we become so much closer to our Heavenly Father. Does this make sense? It’s not like I can’t remember English, but I always feel like I sound really funny when I write in English.
As for zone conferences, we have them every week. Every Saturday. They are not fun. I am not sure why Derek and Scott lucked out and practically had parties in their zone conferences, but all we do is talk about what we are doing wrong and how we can be better. There is a phrase in Spanish “machete” used here a lot. And that is pretty much what our Zone conferences are. But sometimes their is roll playing at the end so that is a bonus.
OH MY GOSH ALAN RICKMAN DIED ARE YOU SERIOUS. When I read that I actually screamed and the other Hermanas were like “what!? what happened!” And I was like “You know the movie, Harry Potter? Well potion’s master died!” Anyways, they weren’t quite as moved as I was. But super sad. He was a great man. A great wizard. Also I cant believe Donald Trump is going to be the republican candidate. Say what we will about Obama but at least he was a good face for America. (I think there is something lost in translation here. Obviously Alex will need to watch a lot of Fox News when she returns.)
Alright, everyone, have a great week. Nicole- enjoy your cruise! Garrett- good luck with the kids. Remember always to read the book of Mormon EVERY DAY PEOPLE. There is no better way to find comfort and to align ourselves with God than with the book of Mormon.
I love you guys!

Naturally we got a bunch of banana cookies

I feel like I should start this letter with like “happy” something…so happy first(ish) week of the year!
This week was good! Just working hard a trying to learn Spanish. So pretty much the same old. This week more than ever I feel like my “American” status is being highlighted aka we get free taxis and food and stuff because my companions will be like “our companion here will sign a photo of the Restoracion if you don’t charge us.” Is that bad? I feel like I am taking advantage of people, but really we just don’t have that much money. One guy on a bus came up to me and started preaching his crazy gospel, but he was also selling cookies, so I just smiled and let him rant but at the end he was like “you have the most beautiful heart” and naturally we got a bunch of banana cookies.
OH another funny experience. We were in this one area that is mas o menos sketchy. Like it is kind of where all the druggies live, but since we are missionaries and every one here loves Jesus we don’t feel in danger. Any who we were talking to this one guy and then eventually a group of like 15 people came up and we were talking to them. And these people were just like the harshest group of people ever. Like killers and robbers and druggies and just horrible things. But wow did we call them to repentance. It was so cool. Like I was just like “every one of you has the chance to repent and return to your father in heaven, thanks to Jesus Christ” anyways the spirit was strong and they were crying. Love being a missionary.
Other things. We have a fecha that is really just working so hard to complete with the law of chastity. If you guys have ever seen the missionary training movie “district”. It is just like “German”. He is so so trying and it is so nice to see that he really wants to change his life and I just love being a part of that.
One more thing, so as a mission we are reading the book of Mormon. So I am marking the name of Christ every time I read it, not just Christ but also “Lord” “Savior” “Redeemer” and stuff. Man it is great. You guys should try it. It seriously is building my testimony that the book of Mormon truly testifies that Christ is our savior.
AND that’s about all. I love you guys so much! Aunt Paula and Aunt Lori THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE CHRISTMAS GIFTS. I loved it so so much. Sister Powell and Sister Pew thank you so much for your Christmas cards.´I love hearing about your families and I am so glad you guys are doing alright. I am always praying for you guys:)
I love you!

New Years is huge

HELLO familia!

Alex in mosquito net
Como están? Ah man I miss you guys like crazy. But Happy New Year! Sounds like you guys had a fun start to the year. Guys 2016. I am going to be home in 1 year!
So this week. Like I said before, Navidad isn’t really a big deal here, but New Years is huge. It is really nuts. So we had to spend a lot of time studying in the house this week (Preach my Gospel ch. 12 to be exact). And there was pretty much no one in the street because everyone was sleeping and in the nut there was FULL music and parties and craziness. We were super obedient though exact for one night. We went to bed at 10:30 like good misioneras and then our president of the rama called us and was outside of our house with just tons of food for us. So we went to the terrace in our apartment and ate and it was fun. That was on Thursday though and I am still suffering the consecuencias of staying up until 3 am.
Uh….other than that….not much. We are teaching this super cool black family. They laugh really loud and have cool hair. Anyways they did these cool braids in my hair and I looked pretty hard core (ridiculous) for a while. I will send pictures.
I am sorry that this email is the lamest. But really this week was the lamest. I can send you some cool scriptures about baptismo y confirmation, though (that is chapter 12). But I love you guys! I hope you have a happy start to the year. Sorry that Utah is the worst in January. Enjoy the snow.
Love, Hermana Brimley
